Sikkim This is a state in the mountainous region of the Himalayas with Tibet in the North, Bhutan in the East, Nepal in the West and West Bengal in the South. The territory used to be ruled by the Chogyals, but became part of India in 1975. The capital is Gangtok. The population is composed of Lepchas, Bhutias and Nepalis who are mainly Buddhists. The state lies on a trade route between Tibet and India. |
