This state is located in Central India with its capital Bhopal.  The state is said to have extraordinary architectural and scenic beauty with the Vindhya and Satpura Mountain ranges and the Narmada river flowing East to West. The main language is Hindi and the main cities are Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Rewa, Sagar and Ujjain which were former princely states. Many members of former princely families and landed gentry with considerable wealth still live there.

Tourism is an important industry with the Khajuraho monuments, Buddhist monuments, Rock Shelters of Bhumbehka and many national parks. There is much scope for development especially domestic and international tourism with the help of the state government in this area. There is still a problem of law and order in the mountain area which has so far dampened the progress.
