Jharkand This state was carved out of Bihar in 2000. Its capital is Ranchi, and it other main cities or towns are Bokaro, Dhanbad and Jamshedpur. This area is rich in iron ore and coal. As a result the TATA iron and steel plants are located there. Heavy machinery is manufactured there and much mining activity goes on. There are also hydro-electric power plants. The state attracts skilled workers and professionals from other states, many of whom are permanently settled there.
