This is the northern most state in India where tension between India and Pakistan is concentrated and militant terrorist groups operate. The region has good golf courses, hotels, house boats, glaciers, beautiful sites in high altitude and places of Hindu pilgrimage. It is a picturesque state in the Himalayan Mountains which was known for tourism both domestic and international and its carpet industry. Most of the population is Muslim, and many of the Hindus living there have migrated to other parts of the country.
