Himachal Pradesh

This state is in the North-West bordering Kashmir and Tibet. It’s located in the Himalayan and Shivalik mountain ranges. Its capital is Shimla which used to be the summer capital of India in the colonial days. The languages are Kangri, Pahari, Punjabi and Hindi. The people are mainly Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists (Dalai Lama lives there).

The main industry is tourism. It also has extensive fruit orchards and vegetables of a variety that is found in temperate climates.

The region has several famous private boarding schools like Sanawar and Loreto Tarahouse. It also has training colleges and institutions for professionals.

There are a number of picturesque, smaller hill resorts like Kasauli, Kulu and Manali where there is abundant scope for development of tourist hotels and recreational facilities.

Many fruit products like jams, tinned fruits and juices from this region are sold all over the country and have developed good brands.
